Eligibility Requirements

This application will award students scholarship funds for the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 school year. Applicants must be residents of the 22nd Legislative District. Scholarship recipients may use the scholarship toward undergraduate, graduate, or professional studies.

Please Note: Scholarship funding does not carry over year-to-year, so if you received funding after successfully applying to Delegate Gaines' scholarship last year in Spring 2018, you must reapply for Fall 2019 & Spring 2020 scholarship.

Applicants must complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Please take care to file for your FAFSA by March 1, 2019 to ensure that it arrives by our April 1, 2019 deadline.

Applicants must submit an essay component. In a 500 word essay, state your major (or intended major), describe why you chose this field of study, and discuss how you hope to contribute to society with this degree.

Applicants must submit the latest copy of their academic transcript. Transcripts that are acquired online are accepted.

You may include up to two letters of recommendation.

Applications can be submitted starting January 1st, 2019. Complete applications, including all supporting documents, must be received by 5PM April 1st, 2019.
